* Muslim women’s group urges security agencies to intensify rescue efforts
The national headquarters of Al-Mu’minaat Organisation, a Muslim women’s group, has strongly condemned the recent kidnapping and abduction of school staff and pupils in Oyo State, describing the incidents as disturbing, painful and unacceptable.
In a statement issued on Saturday by its National Amirah, Hajiah Jelilah Abdulhameed, the organisation called on the government and security agencies to intensify efforts toward the immediate rescue and safe return of all abductees.
Al-Mu’minaat said it was deeply concerned that innocent teachers and schoolchildren could be subjected to such trauma and abuse in a country that prides itself as the giant of Africa.
“It is highly disturbing and unacceptable that innocent teachers and their learners are subjected to such torture and abuse in this nation that prides itself as a giant of Africa,” the statement said.
The group stressed that the most fundamental responsibility of any government is the protection of lives and property, noting that the safety, dignity and well-being of citizens must remain a top priority, even as political activities begin to gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to the organisation, the safety and protection of children remain a sacred responsibility shared by individuals, families, communities and the government.
“The recent incidents are painful, alarming and unacceptable, as they threaten the peace, security and emotional well-being of families and communities,” the statement added.
Citing Islamic teachings on the sanctity of human life, Al-Mu’minaat said Islam strongly condemns all forms of oppression, injustice and violence against innocent people, particularly children.
The organisation referenced verses from the Qur’an, including Chapter 5 verse 32, which highlights the immense value of saving human life, and Chapter 6 verse 151, which warns against harming children.
It also quoted the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) as saying: “He is not one of us who does not show mercy to our young ones and respect to our elders.” (Sunan al-Tirmidhi)
Al-Mu’minaat said the abduction of children and school staff, as well as all forms of kidnapping and violence against innocent persons, are criminal, inhumane and contrary to both Islamic teachings and universal moral values.
The group called on relevant security agencies to intensify efforts toward the immediate rescue of the abducted pupils and staff, while urging government at all levels to strengthen child protection mechanisms and improve community security.
It also appealed to parents, schools, religious institutions and community leaders to remain vigilant and educate children on safety awareness, while calling on members of the public to support lawful authorities by promptly reporting suspicious activities.
Al-Mu’minaat prayed for the safe return of all abductees and comfort for affected families, asking Allah to restore peace and security to communities across the country.
“May Allah protect our society from every form of evil and injustice. Amin,” the statement concluded.
