* Urges Muslims to sustain spirit of sacrifice beyond Eid celebrations
The Muslim Students Society of Nigeria (MSSN), Lagos State Area Unit, has called on Muslims to embrace the spirit of sacrifice, selflessness, and compassion as they celebrate Eid, while urging leaders at all levels to uphold accountability and responsible governance.
In its Eid message signed by the Amir, Mal Kamoldeen Abiona, the student body described Eid as a season of gratitude to Allah for His countless blessings, noting that the occasion offers an opportunity for deep reflection on the meaning of the Takbiraat and its lessons for daily life.
“Eid is a season of gratitude to Allah for His countless favours upon us. We thank Him for sparing our lives to witness yet another Eid celebration,” the statement said, adding that Muslims should allow the spiritual lessons of the festival to guide their conduct beyond the celebration period.
The group emphasised the need to strengthen social bonds and promote collective wellbeing, urging citizens to look beyond personal interests and extend care to others in society.
“At this time, we must strengthen our relationships as citizens and as members of one society. Let us all embrace the spirit of sacrifice, selflessness, and compassion,” it added.
Expressing concern over the security situation in the country, Mal Abiona referenced recent cases of abduction, including the reported kidnapping of schoolchildren in Ibadan, describing such incidents as deeply distressing and traumatic for affected families.
“Our country is currently facing serious security challenges… we therefore call on the government and relevant security agencies to intensify efforts towards securing lasting solutions to insecurity and ensuring the protection of lives and property,” he ssaid.
The group noted that insecurity had affected the ability of many families to fully experience the joy of Eid, calling for urgent intervention to restore safety and public confidence.
On the political atmosphere ahead of future elections, the MSSN warned politicians against turning the process into a “do-or-die affair,” stressing that leadership remains a trust that will be accounted for before Allah.
As the nation looks ahead to the next election cycle, Mal Abiona urged political stakeholders to prioritise peace, fairness, and responsibility in their engagements with the public.
The organisation also called on world leaders to address ongoing geopolitical tensions involving Iran, the United States, and Israel, noting that such conflicts continue to affect global stability and worsen economic hardship for ordinary people.
MSSN Lagos further called on Nigerians to remain prayerful for the peace, progress, and righteous leadership of the country, especially during the current political period.
In its concluding remarks, the group congratulated the outgoing Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Ishaq Oloyede, praising his service and contributions to national development.
“Finally, we congratulate our father, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, on the successful completion of his tenure… we pray that Allah continues to bless him, preserve his life, and grant him more opportunities to serve humanity and the Ummah,” it stated.
The statement ended with Eid greetings: “Eid Mubarak to all. Wassalaamu ‘alaykum warahmatullaahi wabarakaatuh.”
