Halal and Agrofood Compliance Certification Services (HACCS) has certified HE-STAMERS Culinary Spices as Halal-compliant and appointed an Independent Halal Compliance Supervisor to oversee continued adherence to Halal assurance requirements.
The certification covers HE-STAMERS’ garlic, turmeric, onion and thyme leaves after a comprehensive audit of the company’s ingredients, production processes, hygiene practices, handling procedures, storage facilities and relevant food safety controls.
Speaking on the development, the Chief Executive Officer of HACCS, Dr Muhideen Amusa, said Halal certification should not be regarded as a one-time approval or merely an authorisation to display a Halal logo on products.
He explained that Halal certification is a continuous assurance process designed to ensure that certified products consistently comply with Islamic dietary principles and recognised food safety standards.
“Halal certification is an ongoing assurance process. Our auditing considers ingredients and their sources, processing and handling practices, food safety controls, and compliance with Islamic dietary principles. Appointing an Independent Halal Compliance Supervisor provides additional oversight to help maintain compliance after certification,” Amusa said.
According to HACCS, the Independent Halal Compliance Supervisor will be responsible for monitoring compliance, reviewing adherence to approved Halal procedures, identifying potential Halal risks and reporting any non-compliance requiring corrective action throughout the validity period of the certificate.
The organisation said the certification followed recognised Halal assurance practices, with due diligence applied at every relevant stage of production to strengthen product integrity and enhance consumer confidence in certified products.
Chairman of the HACCS Halal Certification Panel, Dr Taofeek Thani Muhammed, said post-certification monitoring has become increasingly important because changes in ingredients, suppliers, processing methods or handling practices could affect the Halal status of certified products.
He noted that continuous oversight helps ensure that products remain compliant throughout the certification period rather than only at the point of initial approval.
Also speaking, the Lead Auditor, Mr Rafiu Showole, who holds a Master’s degree in Halal Industry Management from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), urged consumers to have confidence in the certified HE-STAMERS Culinary Spices.
Mr. Showole said the products underwent comprehensive Halal and food safety audits before the certification was granted, assuring consumers that the certification was based on rigorous assessment procedures.
HACCS said the certification of HE-STAMERS Culinary Spices, alongside the appointment of an Independent Halal Compliance Supervisor, reflects the organisation’s broader commitment to strengthening accountability, traceability and continuous Halal assurance within Nigeria’s food and agro-processing industry.
