* Sultan of Sokoto to lead Muslim leaders, stakeholders in two-day programme in Abuja
The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), under the leadership of its President General and Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, CFR, mni, has announced a Special National Prayer for the peace, stability and progress of Nigeria on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at the Abuja National Mosque Complex.
The prayer, scheduled for 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., will provide an opportunity for Muslims to collectively seek Allah’s guidance, protection, peace and blessings for Nigeria and its citizens.
In a statement signed by Abbas Jimoh, Public Affairs Officer of the NSCIA, the Council also announced that its General Assembly would hold the following day, Thursday, October 1, 2026, at the same venue, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
The General Assembly is the highest decision making organ of the NSCIA and constitutes the largest gathering of the Council.
The Assembly, headed by Sultan Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, comprises the Deputy President General (North) and Shehu of Borno, HRH Alhaji Abubakar ibn Umar Garbai El Kanemi, CFR; the Deputy President General (South), Alhaji Rasaki Oladejo, FCS; the Secretary General, Prof. Is haq Olanrewaju Oloyede, CON, FNAL; and the Deputy Secretary General, Prof. Salisu Shehu.
It will also bring together Muslim public office holders, including governors, legislators, ministers, heads of government agencies and chief executive officers, as well as representatives of the 36 State Councils for Islamic Affairs and the Federal Capital Territory.
Representatives of Islamic organisations, members of the General Purpose Committee (GPC) and Expanded General Purpose Committee (EGPC), as well as prominent Muslim personalities from across Nigeria, are also expected to participate.
The NSCIA General Assembly serves as a platform for consultation, reflection and consideration of issues affecting the Council, the Muslim Ummah and the nation.
The Council called on all invited members, representatives and stakeholders to make adequate arrangements to participate in and contribute to the success of the two day programme.
It also urged Muslims across Nigeria to use the occasion to pray for continued peace, unity, security, good governance and sustainable development in the country.
The NSCIA reiterated its commitment to promoting unity among Muslims, fostering peaceful coexistence and supporting efforts towards the stability and progress of Nigeria.
