Lagos Chief Imam leads Janazah as Amir Ajala laid to rest in Ogun State

Mammoth crowd of Muslim sympathizers on Friday, January 24, stormed the Campus Mini Stadium, Lagos Island, for the Janazah (funeral prayer) of renowned Islamic scholar and preacher, Amir Qamardeen Ajala.

Amir Ajala returned to his Creator, Allah, on the evening of Thursday, January 23.

The Janazah was led by the Chief Imam of Lagos, Sheikh Sulaimon Oluwatoyin Abou-Nolla before his remains were moved to the Mainland Central Muslim Community Burial Ground, Mowe/Ofada in Ogun State.

Muslim News gathered the deceased had written a will as far back as 2012 where he stated that the Conference of Islamic Organizations under the leadership of Sheikh Abdur-Rahman Ahmad of Ansar-Ud-Deen and Sheikh Dhikrullah Shafi’i of The Muslim Congress (TMC) should supervise his burial.

The will was read before the Muslim congregation by Dr. Abdul Hakeem Abdul Lateef at the Janazah (funeral services) that had other leading scholars, including Sheikh Imran Abdul Majeed Eleha, Sheikh Isa Akindele, Sheikh Abdulateef Fridaws, Sheikh AbdurRauf bn Sa’eed (Abu Mazeedatilkhayr), among other great Muslim scholars and imams.

Both Sheikh Ahmad and Sheikh Shafi’i granted that the Janazah be led by Chief Imam of Lagos.

Sheikh Shafi’i paid tribute to the late scholar while urging the Muslims to emulate him.

“His life should be a lesson for us. Writing a will is a practice in Islam. We have seen in recent times scholars that wrote wills on who should lead or supervise their funeral prayers. He wrote the will on August 29, 2012. May Allah have mercy on him and forgive all his shortcomings. Ameen,” he said.

In his own remark, Sheikh AbdurRahman Ahmad prayed for a great ending for all Muslims.

He said, like Allah had done for the deceased Amir Ajala, a great ending is dying as a Muslim, especially on the path of Sunnah.

Sheikh Ahmad, who was one of the scholars charged to oversee the burial rites by Amir Ajala in his will, appreciated Muslims from across the country for turning out in their numbers, and for being orderly and calm during the Janazah proceedings.

The scholar charged other Muslims to learn from Sheikh Ajala who had prepared a very long time ago for death, as evident in the preparation of his will as far back as 2012.

Other scholars who graced the Janazah include Imaam Tijani Olubodun Gbajabiamila (Olori Ratibi of Lagos), Imaam Dhi-Nurayn Abdul ‘Azeez (State Missioner, Jama’at-ul-Islamiyyah), Sheikh Sharaf Deen Ojulari, Sheikh Habeeb Olawuyi, Imaam Ibrahim Afinni, Sheikh Abdul Ghaniyy Sadiq (Chief Imaam Olayinka Town, Kwara State), Sheikh Abdullah Al-Mintiq, and lots of members of Imaam from Lagos Central Mosque, among others too numerous to mention.

O Allah, forgive Amir Qamardeen Ajala and elevate his station among those who are guided. Send him along the path of those who came before, and forgive us and him, O Lord of the worlds. Enlarge for him his grave and shed light upon him in it. Ameen.
