…say he was beacon of guidance
Three notable organisations in Nigeria –The Muslim Congress (TMC), The Muslim Students Society of Nigeria, Lagos State Area Unit and Al-Mu’minaat (the Believing Women) Organisation, have joined thousands of other organisations as well as millions of Nigerian Muslims to mourn the passing of an Islamic scholar, Amir Qamardeen Ajala.
The respected Muslim scholar died on the evening of Thursday and was buried today, Friday, at the Mainland Central Muslim Community Burial Ground, Mowe/Ofada, Ogun State, after Janazah (funeral prayers) was held in Lagos.
Amir Ajala’s death, devastating blow: Bangbala
In a condolence statement issued by its Amir, Alhaji Abdulwasi’i Taiwo Bangbala, The Muslim Congress (TMC) described the death of Amir Ajala as a devastating blow to the Muslim community, particularly in Southwest, just over a month after the loss of Sheikh Muhyideen Bello.
“This double tragedy is a bitter pill to swallow, leaving the Ummah to grapple with the immense void left by these two iconic figures,” the organisation said.
It added that Amir Ajala was a pillar of strength in the Muslim community, known for his exceptional leadership, humility, and unwavering commitment to the Islamic cause.
“His contributions to Islamic scholarship, education, and community development have had a profound impact on countless lives, both within Nigeria and beyond.
“The Muslim community will deeply feel the loss of Amir Ajala, whose invaluable contributions and steadfast advocacy for Islam have left an indelible mark. His passing is a tremendous loss, and the community will continue to draw inspiration from his remarkable legacy,” the statement said.
TMC urged the Muslim community in Lagos to honour Amir Ajala’s memory by offering special prayers for his soul, even as it extends heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and associates.
“May Allah comfort them and grant them the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss. We pray Allah accept his contributions to the Islamic cause and grant him a place among the righteous. May his grave be a sanctuary of peace and comfort for him,” the statement said.
He was a committed team player: Al-Mu’minaat
The National Headquarters also consoled the Nigerian Muslims over the demise of Amir Qamardeen Ajala.
In a statement issued by its Amirah, Hajia Jelilat AbdulHamid described Amir Ajala as a committed team player on goodness, who worked assiduously for the unity of the Ummah.
“Before returning to His Lord in the evening of 23rd Rajab 1446 /23rd January 2025, Amir Ajala, as he was popularly and fondly called, was a true servant of Allah, a revered Islamic scholar, a passionate Muslim preacher, and an amiable personality to the core.
“We join the Nigeria Muslims, home and abroad in mourning this exemplary Muslim leader and mentor at this difficult period over the huge loss. No doubt, his departure will create a vacuum.
“We pray to Allah to be accept his soul, overlook his shortcomings and admit him to Al-Jannah Firdaous. We ask Allah to console his immediate family and grant them succour and fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
Hajia Jelilat AbdulHamid noted that Amir Ajala has played his part in the propagation of pristine Islam, and beseeched Allah to accept his strivings on His path as acts of ibaadah.
He was a beacon of light and guidance, Abiona praises Ajala
Also mourning the death of the prominent Islamic propagator, the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN), Lagos State Area Unit, said Amir Ajala was a beacon of light and guidance, who dedicated his life to the service of Islam and humanity.
The Student body noted in a statement signed by their Amir Kamaldeen Abiona, that Sheikh Ajala’s leadership, humility, and unwavering commitment to the development of the Ummah will remain a lasting legacy.
Abiona expressed profound grief on the loss which he described as irreplaceable.
“Amir Qamardeen was a model of dedication and sincerity. May Allah forgive his shortcomings, grant him Al-Jannah Firdaus, and strengthen his family, the Ummah and the loved ones during this difficult time,” the Amir said.
The group said it will hold special prayers in honour of the deceased across its 45 Area Councils in Lagos State.
