THE MESSAGE: In Fairness to Nigerian Christians, By Femi Abbas

President Buhari, a Muslim, and his vice, a Pastor, Prof. Osinbajo

A leading Islamic organisation in Nigeria, The Muslim Congress, TMC, has tasked President Muhammadu Buhari on the need to wake to his responsibilities and shake off the seemingly lethargic posture towards the security challenges besetting the country.

TMC also urged the president to prove he still wields the capacity to secure and protect the lives as well as properties of every Nigerian.

Speaking at its quarterly State of the Nation Address, the Amir, Allhaji AbdulWasiu Bangbala said insecurity remains a major problem that has exposed the vulnerability of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government, with terrorism fast becoming the order of the day.

Alhaji Bamgbala, who chaired the Committee on Social Mobility, the Economy & Politics, said President Buhari owes a duty to the entire nation to find the mindless killers of innocent Nigerians and bring them to justice.

According to him, “Like other pockets of internal security crises, the attack on worshippers in Owo Ondo State; and the attack on a construction site in the same city by yet to be identified gunmen has left many in awful fluster as widespread security breaches around the country continues to generate palpable concerns among the citizens.

“The worsening violence by armed groups has left the over 200 million people in perpetual trepidation as the nation is bedevilled by an unprecedented wave of overlapping security issues – from kidnapping to insurgencies in almost every corner of the country.”

The Amir also reacted to the brutal killings of soldiers and policemen in Shiroro, Niger State, which he said makes clearly evident that insecurity is, by far, the biggest challenge facing the country.

“The mayhem and unmitigated daredevil attacks ravaging the Southeast, especially Anambra State, is another case in point. The government must deploy its machinery and every strategy at its disposal to entrench security and welfare of citizens.

“The military onslaught against bandit-terrorists that are wreaking havocs in and around the country must be intensified with strategic coordination with the counter-terrorism department of the Police Force and other security institutions. Nigerians have endured years of great misfortune and truly deserve a break,” he noted

TMC Amir further called on President Buhari to take decisive action on the remaining abductees of the Abuja-Kaduna train attack who, at the time of the event, have spent over 140 days in captivity.
