The Chief Executive Officer of Bahrain-based Bank ABC Islamic, Hammad Hassan has been named Global Muslim Finance Person of the Year 2021, an award organised by Muslim News, Nigeria’s most authoritative Islamic newspaper.
Hassan emerged the winner of the prestigious award tagged #MNAwards2021 after a rigorous process by a team of banking advisors and experts.
#MNAwards is an acronym for Muslim News Nigeria Awards, celebrating Muslim achievers who have excelled and made the Muslim community proud in Nigeria and globally.
Now into its fourth year, the 2021 edition of the awards features categories honouring Muslim professionals in media, teaching, health, law, finance and entertainment industries at a global level.
Malaysian Shari’ah scholar and finance expert, Dr. Mohammed Daud Bakar was the winner of the 2020 Global Islamic Finance Person of the Year.
In a press statement on Friday, October 21, 2022, in Lagos, the cultural and financial capital of Africa, Abubakar described Hassan as an exceptional leader who has consistently led the bank’s growth, from $22.9 million profit when he joined in 2016 to $29.9 million in 2021.
Hassan is a seasoned and consummate banker with well over twenty five years of experience in corporate, institutional and consumer banking. He has work experience across different countries of the world. He also has a chequered history in Islamic banking and finance, especially in the areas of structuring, product development and general management, according to a background check on him.
Hassan is an active board player with deep relationship and engagement with banking regulators as well as Shari’ah scholars. The finance rockstar has work experience in two international financial institutions: Citigroup and Bank ABC Group, serving in several roles.
He leads an award-winning and well-decorated financial institution Bank ABC Islamic that has built a reputation of being client-centric and delivering excellence. The bank has also adopted innovative solutions to complement its Shari’ah compliant operations.
