An alumna of Al-Qalam Schools, Ibadan, Oyo State, Sofiyyah Olawunmi Otun, has graduated with a First Class Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Nursing from Cyprus International University in Northern Cyprus, marking another remarkable academic milestone for the institution.

Muslim News gathered that Sofiyyah was among the graduating students honoured during the university’s 2025/2026 Spring Semester Graduation Ceremony held on Friday, June 26, 2026.

The Ogun State-born Hafidhah (female Qur’an memoriser) began her educational journey in the Kiddies Section of Al-Qalam Schools, where she received a strong academic foundation alongside sound Islamic upbringing.

After successfully completing her Qur’an memorisation, she pursued a career in nursing, driven by a passion to serve humanity through compassionate healthcare.

Her academic success reflects years of discipline, resilience and dedication to excellence. Beyond the classroom, she distinguished herself through volunteer service with several international organisations and spent four years serving as a Qur’an teacher at the Muslim Madrasah of Cyprus International University.

In recognition of her exemplary service and commitment, she was honoured with an Excellence Award by the Muslim Students Association.

Speaking on behalf of the management, the Director of Academics, Hajia Abimbola Otun, described Sofiyyah’s First Class graduation as another testament to Al-Qalam Schools’ vision of raising future leaders equipped with knowledge, integrity and a spirit of service.

She said the achievement reflects the school’s enduring commitment to producing graduates who combine academic excellence with sound Islamic values while inspiring the next generation to pursue success without compromising their faith.

Hajia Otun recalled that during the school’s 20th Anniversary celebration earlier this year, the management reaffirmed its mission: “To be a leading institution offering qualitative education with morals based on pristine Islamic teachings; to nurture an ideal Muslim child who shall influence the globe positively and benefit from both worlds.”

She also highlighted recent successes recorded by the school’s alumni, including participation in the Young Future Leaders Programme at the National College of Ireland, where three former students secured €3,000 scholarships, subject to acceptance and enrolment, for the September 2026 academic session.

Reaffirming its commitment to faith-based excellence, the management encouraged Muslim parents not to compromise their religious values in pursuit of quality education, noting that Muslim schools continue to demonstrate that academic excellence and strong Islamic morals can coexist.

Founded in April 2006, Al-Qalam Schools has, over the past two decades, nurtured numerous outstanding young Muslims who have excelled in academics and professional careers while making meaningful contributions to society through education, humanitarian service, entrepreneurship and community development.

The management said Sofiyyah’s First Class graduation further reinforces the school’s reputation for producing graduates who are academically accomplished, morally grounded and committed to serving humanity, while reflecting its enduring vision of developing future leaders with global impact.
