A senior member of Yemen’s Supreme Political Council has declared Sanaa’s readiness to collaborate with Algeria in bolstering support for Gaza.

Mohammed Ali Al-Houthi’s announcement on X followed Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s pledge to provide military, medical and humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.

In his comment on Sunday, Al-Houthi praised the “important, ideal and wonderful statements” by Tebboune. He expressed hope for coordinated efforts to support Gaza and Palestine, potentially opening new fronts in the “Jerusalem Axis”.

Tebboune asserted on Sunday that the Algerian army is prepared to enter Gaza if Egypt permits border access.

Speaking at a rally ahead of the country’s presidential election scheduled to be held on 7 September, Tebboune said: “If they open the borders between Egypt and Gaza, we know what to do. The army is ready as soon as the borders [Rafah crossing] are opened… We will build three hospitals within 20 days.”

Algeria is known for its strong support of the Palestinian cause. It has also taken legal action against Israel at the International Criminal Court and the International Court of Justice, reinforcing its position as a key ally of the Palestinians in the Arab world.

Yemen’s Houthi-allied forces have, since last October, already engaged in military action against the occupation state, launching missiles and drones in support of the Palestinian resistance. The de-facto government in Sanaa has also vowed never to abandon the Palestinian cause.
