The government of Turkiye has expressed deep sadness over the recent terrorist attacks on two villages in Kwara State, Nigeria, which claimed dozens of lives.
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq said the victims, who were mostly Muslims, were killed after they refused to surrender to extremists preaching a “strange doctrine.”
In a post on X, he reported that “75 local Muslims were massacred”, while a state lawmaker told the BBC that at least 78 bodies had been buried. The death toll could rise to around 170 as recovery efforts continue.
President Bola Tinubu blamed the attacks on Boko Haram and ordered the deployment of an army battalion to the affected communities.
In a statement on its X account, the government of Turkiye strongly condemned the attacks and extended condolences to the victims’ families and the people of Nigeria.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of lives caused by the terrorist attack that took place in Kwara State, Nigeria. We strongly condemn this heinous act and extend our condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and to the people of Nigeria. Turkiye will continue to support Nigeria in its fight against terrorism.”
