* Unveils new book on ‘Contemporary Marriage Issues on the Scale of Islam’
The Standard Bearers Islamic Organisation, Ife Branch, will on Sunday, June 28, host the fourth edition of its Annual Scholars Colloquium with a focus on addressing contemporary issues affecting marriage and family life in Islam.
The event, scheduled to take place at the Central Mosque, Enuwa, Ile Ife, Osun State, will begin at 9:00 am and is expected to attract Islamic scholars, community leaders, students, married couples and members of the public.
The colloquium is themed “Marriage Contemporary Challenges: Rulings and Guidance” and will examine several issues confronting Muslim families in contemporary society.
Muslim News gathered that discussions will focus on contemporary marriage issues, including divorce, second wife, joint bank accounts, and joint ownership of property between husband and wife or wives, among other subjects.
Coordinator of the organisation, Mallam Hassan Abdulfatai, said the programme is designed to provide practical Islamic guidance rooted in the Qur’an and the Sunnah while addressing modern realities confronting Muslim marriages.
He said the annual colloquium aims to equip Muslims with sound knowledge on contemporary marital issues and provide scholarly perspectives that will strengthen families and promote harmony in society.
The Grand Mufti of the Conference of Islamic Organisations, Sheikh Dhikrullah Shaafi’i, will deliver one of the keynote lectures, while the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Vanguard Academy, Dr Zafaran Adeniyi, will also speak during the event.
The Chief Imam of the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex, Ile Ife, Dr Ibrahim S. Bello, will chair the event, while the Chief Imam of Ife Land, Shaykh Alhaji Abdus Samii Abdul Hamid, will serve as the Spiritual Father of the Day.
Unveils new book on Islamic rulings guiding contemporary marriage
A major highlight of the programme will be the formal unveiling of a new book titled, “Contemporary Marriage Issues on the Scale of Islam: Fatwas on Nikah Ceremonies and Customs.”
The book was compiled by Dr Ibrahim Kolawole Mogaji, edited by Imam Hakeem Ishola Peleowo, and features a foreword by Dr Zafaran Adeniyi, who will speak at the colloquium.
Speaking on the significance of the publication, the author, Dr Ibrahim said the book explores a wide range of contemporary questions surrounding marriage, wedding ceremonies and social customs through the guidance of the Qur’an, the Sunnah and the principles of Islamic jurisprudence.
According to him, the publication discusses issues such as the bridal chair, wedding dress and beautification, sisters’ night, wedding anniversaries, gender interaction, honeymoon, imitation of non Muslims, and other modern marital practices.
He added that the book also presents the evidences, scholarly opinions, and legal methodologies behind differing views, while promoting balance, clarity, and intellectual honesty in understanding Islamic rulings.
Dr Ibrahim added that the book is intended for Muslim youths preparing for nikah, married couples, community leaders and every Muslim seeking a deeper understanding of how Islamic law interacts with culture and contemporary life.
The programme will also be streamed live on YouTube to enable participants from different locations to benefit from the discussions.
The author invited members of the public to attend the annual scholars colloquium, describing it as an opportunity to gain authentic Islamic guidance on contemporary marriage issues and contribute to building stronger Muslim families.
