Bilal Philips recovers from COVID-19, takes a swipe at Macron over Prophet Muhammad’s cartoon

▪︎ Commends Erdoğan’s immediate response, joins boycott of French products

Renowned Islamic scholar, Dr. Bilal Philips famously known as Abu Ameenah has recovered from the novel Coronavirus.

Muslim News had on October 16 reported that the Founder and Chancellor of the Islamic Online University was hospitalised and tested positive for the virus.

In a social media post on Thursday, Abu Ameenah disclosed his recovery from the deadly virus, while thanking his Muslim brethren for their prayers which he said are a “Source of strength for both myself and my family.”

According to him, “A lot has happened in the past few weeks while I was hospitalised with a severe case of Covid-19. Al-hamdulillaah, Allah cured me due to your many Duaa (prayers) which have been a source of strength for both myself and my family. May Allah bless you all and keep you and your families safe. Ameen!”

The global preacher, who has not been opportune to comment on topical issues due to his illness, immediately took a swipe at France President, Emmanuel Macron over his unguarded and provocative remarks against Islam and the Muslims.

Macron, who was heavily criticised by the Muslim world, accused Muslims of separatism and vowed not to give up Charlie Hebdo’s cartoons depicting Prophet Muhammed.

Dr. Phillips said, “I stand in solidarity with my brothers and sisters in Islam to condemn the most recent vicious islamophobic attacks against Islam and Muslims.

“French President, Macron’s claim that posting of derisive cartoons of the Prophet is an expression of ‘Freedom of Speech’ is ludicrous and would never be tolerated if they were against any other religion.”

The Qatar-based scholar also condemned the revenge killing in France allegedly masterminded by some “Muslims”, noting it reeks of ignorance and does not have a place in Islam.

He also backed Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan in calling for and implementing a boycott of French products, urging Muslims to support the cause.

“However, the revenge killings in France and elsewhere committed by misguided ignorant Muslims, are totally rejected by Islam.

“Instead, I strongly support the immediate response of President Erdogan, and other Muslim countries in calling for and implementing a boycott of French products. Please join me in calling for the Boycott of all French goods. #boycottFrance,” he noted.
