The new Ambassador of Palestine to Nigeria, His Excellency Muhannad Alhammouri, has commenced his diplomatic assignment in Abuja, Nigeria’s federal capital.
The new envoy was welcomed by staff and officials of the Embassy.
Ambassador Alhammouri succeeds Ambassador Abdullah Abu M. Shawesh, who served from 2022 to 2024 and played a key role in enhancing bilateral relations between Nigeria and Palestine during his tenure.
Muslim News reports that Ambassador Alhammouri presented a copy of his letter of credence to Ambassador Wahab A. Akande, Chief of Protocol at Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on May 23, 2025. This officially marked the commencement of his diplomatic mission in Nigeria.
The new envoy is expected to further deepen and expand cooperation between the State of Palestine and Nigeria across various sectors.
A seasoned diplomat with over two decades of experience in international relations and foreign affairs, Ambassador Alhammouri brings extensive expertise in bilateral diplomacy, negotiation, and embassy leadership.
Until his new role, Alhammouri served as the First Counsellor at the Embassy of the State of Palestine in Turkmenistan.
He was also Director, Asia and Australia Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Palestine between 2014 and 2016.
Among other roles, he held the position of Chargé d’Affaires at the Embassy of the State of Palestine in Kazakhstan between 2007 and 2008, where he managed embassy affairs and diplomatic communication in the absence of an appointed ambassador.
Ambassador Alhammouri was educated at the Kazakh Economic University, Kazakhstan, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics.
He similarly holds a National Diploma in Business and Finance obtained from Bradford University in the United Kingdom.
