The Crescent (new moon) for the Islamic month of Dhul Hijjah, during which the annual Hajj pilgrimage takes place, has been sighted, the Supreme Court announced on Tuesday.
This means that the rites of 2025 Hajj (pilgrimage) will start on Wednesday, June 4 with the pilgrims gathering in the Tent City of Mina.
The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Mohammed Sa’ad Abubakar lll has also declared Wednesday, May 28, first day of Dhul-Hijjah, 1446AH.
The directive was contained in a statement signed by Prof. Sambo Wali Junaidu, the Wazirin Sokoto and Chairman, Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Sultanate Council, Sokoto.
Muslim News reports that the Arafah Day will fall on Thursday, June 5.
Muslims who are not performing the pilgrimage this year will celebrate Eid Al-Adha on Friday, June 6.
The Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia had urged Muslims across the Kingdom to look out for the Crescent on Tuesday — Dhu Al-Qa’dah 29 — and report any sightings as soon as possible to their nearest court.
