The Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria, MUSWEN, and The Companion, an association of Muslim men in business and the professions, have celebrated renowned legal practitioner and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Professor Yusuf Olaolu Ali, SAN, on the occasion of his 70th birthday.
The two Muslim organisations described Ali as an accomplished legal luminary, scholar, philanthropist and committed Muslim whose decades of professional and community service have contributed significantly to Nigeria’s legal development and the advancement of society.
MUSWEN praises decades of service
In a congratulatory message signed by its President, Alhaji Rasaki Oladejo, and Executive Secretary, Professor Wole Abbas, MUSWEN described Ali as a notable philanthropist and committed Muslim who had made significant contributions to the development of Nigeria’s legal profession and society.
The organisation commended his decades of service to the legal profession, particularly his contributions to legal education, jurisprudence, mentoring and community development.
MUSWEN also acknowledged Ali’s commitment to the Muslim community and his role in promoting Islamic values, education and intellectual development in the South West and beyond.
According to the organisation, attaining the age of 70 provides an opportunity to celebrate not only Ali’s longevity but also his remarkable achievements and enduring impact on generations of lawyers, students and members of the wider society.
MUSWEN expressed confidence that his wealth of experience and knowledge would continue to benefit the legal profession, the Muslim Ummah and Nigeria as a whole.
The organisation prayed for his continued good health, wisdom and strength, while wishing him many more years of fruitful service to humanity.
The Companion celebrates faith and excellence
The Companion, in a statement dated September 9, 2026, described Ali as one of Nigeria’s foremost legal icons and said his 70th birthday was more than a celebration of longevity.
According to the association, the milestone was an opportunity to celebrate a life devoted to faith, justice, scholarship, philanthropy and exemplary service to humanity.
The statement, signed by the National Amir, Imam Nojeem Jimoh, and Publicity Secretary, Professor Tunde Akanni, said Ali had distinguished himself over several decades as one of Nigeria’s finest legal practitioners.
It noted that, as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Ali had consistently demonstrated professional excellence, integrity and intellectual depth, earning the respect of the Bench, the Bar and the wider society.
Contributions to legal scholarship
The Companion particularly highlighted Ali’s contribution to legal scholarship, describing him as a distinguished author whose books and scholarly works had contributed to the development of knowledge in law, constitutionalism and anti corruption.
The association said his publications had become valuable reference materials widely used by scholars, students, legal practitioners and policy experts within and beyond Nigeria.
It said his intellectual legacy represented an enduring contribution to Nigeria’s legal and governance architecture.
Muslim leadership and service
Beyond his legal career, The Companion described Ali as a frontline Muslim leader whose commitment to the advancement of Islam had remained unwavering.
The association said his leadership within the Muslim community had been characterised by wisdom, moderation, courage and a commitment to justice, compassion and communal development.
It added that Ali had continued to inspire generations of Muslim professionals through a life that demonstrated how faith could be integrated with professional and public responsibility.
Philanthropy and humility
The Companion also commended Ali’s philanthropic activities, saying he had consistently deployed his resources, influence and time to support educational causes, community development initiatives and humanitarian interventions.
It said his generosity had transformed lives and created opportunities for numerous individuals across different communities.
The association identified humility as one of Ali’s most endearing qualities, noting that despite his professional achievements and national stature, he remained warm, approachable and gracious.
According to The Companion, his simplicity, kindness and respect for people, irrespective of their status, had made him not only a celebrated advocate but also a beloved mentor and statesman.
A model for Muslim professionals
The Companion said it was proud to identify with Ali as a worthy role model whose life embodied the values of excellence, integrity and service which the association promotes among Muslim professionals.
The association prayed that Allah would grant the legal icon continued sound health, renewed strength, abundant blessings and many more years of impactful service to Islam, Nigeria and humanity.
It also prayed that Allah would increase Ali in wisdom, protect his family, preserve his legacy and reward his lifelong sacrifices with Al Jannah Firdaus.
